The first exhibition of artists’ residencies on containerships sailing to China has been shown in Vancouver.

23 Days at Sea, reported in the last winter issue of TW+, explores the reaction of four visual artists who made sea journeys in 2015 and 2016, bringing to life the interaction between globalisation and containerisation of trade.

“By embedding artists within the system of global seaborne freight and offering them the opportunity to consider and respond to it,” Access Gallery director Kimberly Phillips wrote in the notes for the show, “we proposed a compelling means through which to render that system — and its spaces — visible.”
