The astonishing sight of massive cruiseships sailing through the centre of Venice may soon be a thing of the past. Plans are being drawn up to call time on them passing through the open-air museum that is the City of Water.

Vessels sail down the main Giudecca Canal, passing such jewels in the Piazza San Marco as the 15th-century Doge’s Palace, offering spectacular views for passengers.
