Panama’s government is aiming to bolster its position at the top of the open registry rankings by modernising and streamlining its processes, and hunting down new markets.
The registry has engaged in a major effort to woo Iranian ships now that Tehran has cast off some of the sanctions that had blacklisted much of its fleet.
The registry has already signed up at least 44 Iranian tankers totalling 5.6 million
