The UK law firm said today that it tapped Joe Walsh, who was a partner at the US rival, along with his team.

They will set up shop in Newport Beach, an Orange County suburb.

Senior Clyde lawyers say the move is part of efforts to expand in the United States and help bolster the firm’s marine and energy practice.

“This combination fits like a hand in a glove with our global practice in that sector,” said John Keough, a maritime law partner in Clyde’s New York office.

“Joe’s experience in maritime casualty and pollution response, in tandem with our current marine team, will provide our marine and energy clients throughout the firm’s international network with a superior response capability.”

Walsh’s maritime law expertise includes particular emphasis in casualty investigations, crisis management, environmental matters and chemical pollution.

He joined Long Beach-headquartered Keesal, Young & Logan in 1989 after completing his legal education at the University of Arizona.

More than 100 of London-based Clyde’s 1,500 layers are in the US.
