Giorgi takes the mound

Industry veteran Roberto Giorgi has emerged as the new leader of a campaign to expand Fraser Yachts, a Monaco-based yacht manager and brokerage backed by V Ships an Azimut Benetti.

Giorgi was installed as executive chairman following the departure of Fabio Ermetto, who was appointed chief commercial officer of Benetti, Azimut Benetti’s flagship megayacht division.

“In this new role, Mr Giorgi will execute Fraser Yachts’ growth strategies and co-ordinate its top managers,” V Ships told clients in an announcement issued earlier this week.

In addition to expansion the shipmanager said Giorgi will lead the search for Fraser’s next chief executive officer and has been tasked with what it described as “the development of internal talent”.

Giorgi, who will continue to hold the title as an honorary president of V Ships, has boasted a seat on Fraser’s board since 2004, which is when the firm was acquired by a partnership between V Ships Leisure and Azimut Benetti.

Observers say the appointment does not come as a surprise. One noted that, in a recent interview with TradeWinds, Giorgi spoke at length about how he and V Ships were growing increasingly interested in the luxury cruise, ferry and yacht segments.
