The Dominican-Swiss Doumbia-Henry will take her position at the Malmo office in Sweden in July.

She is currently director of the International Labour Standards Department of the International Labour Organization and she was heavily involved in the development of the Maritime Labour Convention in 2006.

Doumbia-Henry will also be the first WMU president coming from a developing country.

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) welcomed her appointment with a brief statement.
