Authorities have thrown four vessels on the US Coast Guard's latest list of vessel detentions after discovering deficiencies related to oily water separators (OWSs).

The US Coast Guard has ramped-up their anti-pollution efforts.

The 29,000-dwt Sound Future (built 1996) was held in Portland, Oregon after port inspectors found that the oil content meter attached to the ship's OWS was inoperable.

"Oil content meter is not able to detect effluent with an oil content over 15ppm; this condition poses a serious threat to the environment if oily water with an oil content of over 15ppm was discharged overboard," the Coast Guard wrote in its report.
