South Africa is preparing to salvage a stricken Greek bulker as it continues to approach Cape Town under tow.

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (Samsa) has published the first pictures of the 27,800-dwt Antaios (built 1999), which was hit by fire and water ingress in the engine room 860 miles offshore at the weekend, forcing crew to abandon ship.

The stern is clearly shown lower in the water than the bow.
