A car carrier went adrift off the US following a fire on board on Monday.

The 57,000-gt, 6,545-ceu Alliance St. Louis (built 2005) was 150 miles south of Southwest Pass when the incident occurred.

The vessel, listed as managed by Maersk, sent a report of an electrical fire in the engine room to the US Coast Guard, which dispatched a crew on an over-flight to confirm that the crew had extinguished the blaze.
