Classification societies are providing services to shipowners to meet new European Union (EU) carbon monitoring rules — as well as approving compliance on behalf of the European Commission (EC).
From next year, shipowners will have to comply with the EU monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) regulation requiring them to provide data on emissions.
The main International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) members have been approved by the EC as verifiers of the data provided by shipowners.
