A deepsea construction and pipelaying vessel has stirred controversy as it awaits demolition off the coast of Alang, India, after being sold for scrap to Priya Blue Industries.

The 7,500-dwt GSP Falcon (built 1976) had been trading principally in the North Sea and has been laid up over recent months off the coast of Amsterdam.

Brussels-based NGO Shipbreaking Platform suggests to TradeWinds that the deal could represent an “illegal export” of waste.
