The captain of an Italian-owned panamax tanker has died off the coast of South Africa after suffering a suspected heart attack.

The incident occurred aboard the 70,000-dwt Freight Margie (built 2004) off the port of Durban, according to South Africa’s National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).

“On Thursday NSRI Durban duty crew were alerted to the master of the ship Freight Margie reported to be collapsed unconscious onboard at anchorage seven nautical miles offshore from the Port of Durban,” said NSRI.
