The Port of Durban is reopening after severe storms and vessel incidents closed the port yesterday.

Transnet National Ports Authority says 80% of the navigable area in the port is safe for vessel transit.

Sounding surveys indicated some obstructions, but the areas that showed none were reopened to shipping.

Transnet chief executive Shulami Qalinge says the port authority and others "acted quickly and efficiently to partially restore normality at the port."
