The US Coast Guard (USCG) has been involved in a long-distance mission to rescue an injured sailor aboard a Maersk Line containership.

The unnamed 53-year-old man was airlifted from the 13,100-teu Maersk Eindhoven (built 2010) on Thursday as the ship steamed 600 miles off Alaska.

Due to the vast distance offshore, the ship’s captain was advised to make best course and speed to Cold Bay so a safe medevac could be conducted.
