Silversea Cruises has been forced to cancel the maiden voyage to Antarctica by one of its ships after it suffered a mechanical fault.

The 16,900-gt Silver Cloud (built 1994) is reported to have suffered a broken fuel pump forcing her to dock at Puerto Madryn in Argentina.

The breakdown comes just days after the ship emerged from a major refit at Malta’s Palumbo Shipyard designed to convert her into an ice-class expedition ship.
