A 53-year-old Russian captain is facing four months of jail time for running his ship aground off the southern coast of Sweden for being drunk at sea.

The 7,960-dwt cargo vessel BBC Lagos (built 2012) was en route from Lithuania to Las Palmas when it ran aground near Helsingborg on 3 August, local news reported.

The Swedish coast guard and other vessels had tried to warn the crew by sounding their horns and signalling at the ship to stop, but in vain.
