Part of Australia’s Port Botany was closed on Monday after acid leaked from a drum on a German boxship.
The 3,158-teu California Senator (built 1994, ex Wuxi Dragon) docked on Monday morning from Fremantle after having notified authorities of the problem.
Firefighters went on board to decant the contents of the drum and contain the leak.
But a 250-metre exclusion zone around the ship and a neighbouring vessel will remain in place as other drums are checked.
