The 2,700–dwt Long Shan (built 2006), operated by Shandong Wendeng Shipping,hit rocks on its port side at Jeju island on Tuesday.
Authorities have deployed booms around the general cargovessel. Ten coast guard ships are on standby at the scene.
Salvors are considering lightering its cargo of steelcoils.
The ship was en route from Mizushima, Japan, to Guangzhouin China.
Reports said at least some of the spilled oil wasevaporating.
