The 173,000-dwt Giuseppe Lembo (built 1999) pulled into Prince Rupert harbour on Thursday with crew reporting the problem.

It was escorted to the Northland Terminal for major maintenance.

“There was a crack in the hull, which the crew observed during a routine inspection on its way to Prince Rupert," said port authority spokesman Michael Gurney.

"Upon arrival it anchored in one of our outer anchorages and an assessment was done to see if we had the resources in Prince Rupert in terms of tugs, pilots and repair ability to fix it here in town.
