The 1,800-dwt Danio (built 2001), operated by Cuxship, ran aground on the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast on 16 March.

Attempts by lifeboat organisation RNLI to free the ship sooner were hampered by low tides but they finally succeeded in the middle of last night.

The vessel, with a six-man crew, was sailing from Scotland to Belgium with timber when the incident occurred.
