In a statement emailed to TradeWinds a spokesman said the company was unaware that a crew member on board the 10,600-dwt Margarete C(built 2002) had been falsifying an oil record book prior to a subsequent US Coast Guard (USCG) investigation.

He added: “Carisbrooke Shipping takes any flouting of the Marpol Convention extremely seriously, and has frequently reminded all crew that any such breach of the rules is completely unacceptable.

“[The operator] has taken this opportunity to once again remind crew of the importance of the proper maintenance of equipment and record keeping.”
