Passengers saw the woman fall from the 1,258-berth Veendam(built 1996) Friday while the ship was 450 kilometres southwest of San Diego.
The vessel’s master was notified immediately and a rescue boat was sent out to her, said Holland America in a statement provided to TradeWinds.
“Sadly, she did not survive,” the cruise line said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and her family during this difficult time.”
