The body of the master was discovered in his cabin on the 2,600-dwt Baltiyskiy-109 (built 1980) at Sharpness on 5 January, the Maritime Bulletin reported.
He had a noose around his neck.
An investigation has begun and a replacement captain has been brought in.
The vessel is operated by Baltrechflot of St Petersburg.
