All 12 crew were rescued from the 4,600–dwt Luno (built 1994) by helicopter in a hazardous operation in high winds on Wednesday.

French reports said diesel leaks have been detected.

One seafarer suffered a broken nose in the rescue.

The ship, operated by Murueta Naviera, was in ballast and had 127 cbm of fuel oil in its tanks.

The fore part grounded on the beach and the aft was stuck on the rocky breakwater.

The port has closed while clean-up and salvage operations are launched.
