The Taiwanese machinist needed to be taken off the 8,240-teu YM Uniformity (built 2012) by helicopter in the Elbe estuary, Germany, on Monday, local reports said.
Medical and firefighting teams boarded the vessel.
The ship later anchored off Cuxhaven.
It was heading from Hamburg to Rotterdam.
