Drunk master arrested

A drunk master was arrested after his cargoship ran aground off Helsingborg in Sweden.

The 4,500-dwt Kaisa (built 2005) got stuck on Sunday afternoon, but later managed to pull free under its own power.

The Swedish coastguard said the Lithuanian master turned out to be “heavily intoxicated.”

The 46-year-old captain admitted being in control of the vessel, but said he only drank alcohol after the grounding.

The ship is operated by Hansa Ship Management of Estonia.
