The incident aboard the 47,119-dwt Thor Horizon (built 2002) reportedly took place on Monday in the port of Maentyluoto port, near Pori.

Thoresen Shipping confirmedthat there has been a minor fire onboard the vessel caused by afractured fuel feed pipeline to a generator. 

“The fire was extinguishedwithin 15 minutes and the situation was swiftly brought under control by ourwell trained and professional crew,” managing director Ian Claxton tellsTradeWinds.

“The failsafe safetyequipment installed on Thor Horizon including automatic fuel shutoff and engineroom fire fighting systems functioned perfectly.  Neither the ship and itscargo nor any personnel are in danger.

“All Finnish portauthorities and security personnel have been kept fully informed and have beenaware throughout the situation.

“Our foremost priority is to resume the normalcargo work and to return the ship to full operation as swiftly as possible.”

Thoresen acquired the ice-strengthened open-hatch bulker as the Beautiful Queen (built 2002) in 2006 for $37.5m.

The Thoresen-owned fleet numbers 23 vessels with an average size of 50,402-dwt and an average age of 10.6 years.
