The 96-metre vessel, named as the Chinese-registered Hao Jun, lost power in the early hours of Tuesday in 10-metre typhoon waves, the South China Morning Post reported.
The captain had ordered the seafarers to abandon the ship as it took on water.
A Super Puma chopper was sent from Hong Kong to winch the men from the deck.
It took an hour to rescue them as the vessel moved violently.
