Kendal Wernet suffered a head injury in an accident that took place on board the 71,000-gt Carnival Ecstasy (built 1991).
He fell a distance equal to two ship decks as the vessel was approaching Miami on its return from a three-day cruise.
Police reports say the death appears to be accidental while USA Today reported that the radar system propeller caught Wernet and threw him down.
