The captain of the 3,400-dwt Moldovian-flagged Fortuna S (built 1970) asked to enter the port on 7 October to shelter from a storm.
Two pilots boarded to bring the vessel in, but it got stuck 30 metres outside the harbour on a sandbank.
Later it started to list, before partially submerging.
Part of its upper deck was still showing in photographs from the scene.
