The 6,300-dwt Elga 1 (built 1991) was said to be sinking after issuing a distress signal on 3 December.
The crew reported water leaking into the engine room, Maritime Bulletin reported.
Deep Sea Supply's 4,700-dwt supply ship Sea Spider (built 2014) came to its aid, but pumps were unable to control the flooding and the master ordered the vessel to be evacuated.
