The chief executive of  Visemar di Navigazione that owns the 26,900-gt Norman Atlantic(built 2009) said that everything was in order when the ferry had left for its ill-fated voyage from Greece to Italy.

“The controls that the Norman Atlantic underwent have confirmed the vessel had a fully functioning status,” he told Italian media. There was a light malfunction on one of the fire doors but that was “immediately eliminated,”   he said.
