Italian magistrates issued the order after its Italian owner, Visemar di Navigazione, had appointed Dutch firm Smit Salvage to tow the vessel to the Albanian port of Vlore.

The 26,900-gt Norman Atlantic (built 2009) has instead been redirected to the Italian port of Brindisi using the Italian salvage company Barretta. (See Italian Navy footage of rescue efforts in video below.)

The court order stresses that the magistrates need the stricken vessel “to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the fire and the evacuation, which was not as successful as expected,” the Corriere reports.

It
