The 2,700–dwt Floreana (built 1984) got stuck off Baquerizo Moreno on Wednesday.
Salvors have removed about 5,600 gallons of fuel from the ship, as well as 300 gallons of hydraulic oil, the El Universo website said.
Some of the general cargo has been lightered, but another 500 tons, including cement and beer, have been destroyed.
The salvage work will take about two weeks and then the ship will be sunk off the Galapagos Marine Reserve.
