The 7,500-dwt cargo vessel Lysblink Seaways (built 2000) got stuck near Ardnamurchan Point in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the UK coastguard.
No injuries have been reported and the vessel was not thought to be in immediate danger.
It could not refloat at high tide, however.
The vessel was heading from Belfast to Skogn in Norway, reportedly with a cargo of paper.
