The ferry was packed when it capsized on the Padma river, north of Dhaka, CNN reported.
Passengers who managed to jump into the water from the ferry’s upper deck managed to survive.
It is feared that others have been trapped on the vessel’s lower deck.
More than 100 people were believed to be on the capsized ferry.
Officials told CNN at least 19 children were among the dead.
