The incident involved the 5,550-teu Monte Alegre (built 2009) and the 16,500-dwt Chembulk Houston (built 2003), according to the West Gulf Maritime Association.

There were no injuries or pollution, and the channel is reopened to shipping traffic, according to various sources. The vessels are under way to their designated terminal berths.

The Chembulk Houston is controlled by BLT Chembulk, the Connecticut-headquartered chemical tanker arm of Indonesian shipowner Berlian Laju Tanker (BLT).
