A cable between the 2,700–dwt Floreana (built 1984) and a barge broke on Wednesday off San Cristobal Island, according to Radio Encantada.
The Galapagos Emergency Operations Committee expressed its concern at the delay by both the owner of the stricken ship and the salvage company, T&T Salvage.
It said the owner "has not yet been able to remove all the garbage and polluted water remaining in the ship's hold."
