Today's Zaman reported that the 472-dwt Dogan Kartal (built 1997) was boarded in the Canakkale strait on Thursday evening after it failed to comply with a warning to stop.
The coast guard received a tip-off that a cargoship was carrying a large number of illegal immigrants through the strait.
Its officers were able to board the vessel only when their gunfire had locked the rudder, according to Canakkale governor Ahmet Cinar.
