The US Coast Guard (USCG) has deployed a C-130 aircraft to join the search for the 31-year-old seafarer from Papua New Guinea.
He was noticed missing from the 4,500-gt Professor Logachev (built 1990) on Monday evening.
The USCG has also issued a search pattern to the crew of the research vessel based on drift projection models.
