The 1,900-dwt Sarina Andalas (built 1979) caught fire in its engine room off Bintan on Sunday, local media said.
All 15 crew members were evacuated with no injuries.
Three vessels were sent to the scene to deal with the fire.
The ship was en route from Batam to Jarkarta.
