The Melvin Jules, operated by Santa Clara Shipping, caught fire in its engine room on Thursday afternoon while undergoing repair at Nagasaka Shipyard in Barangay, the Inquirer daily reported.
Firefighters said no one was injured and the blaze was brought under control before it could spread.
Initial findings indicate welding work was taking place and sparks fell into an open container of crude oil.
