The fire broke out on the 8,700-teu Maersk Londrina (built 2012) on 25 April 400 miles offshore while the vessel was heading to Santos, Brazil, from Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia.
A Maersk Line spokesman told TradeWinds: “The crew is safe, there have been no injuries, and there has been no environmental impact.”
The fire was quickly controlled, but due to its location and the “continuous albeit declining presence of heat”, the ship diverted to Mauritius and arrived 27 April in Port Louis.
