Russia has launched a clean-up operation after a tanker grounded off Sakhalin Island in a storm, spilling oil.

The 1,100-dwt Nadezhda (built 1986) damaged one of its fuel tanks in the incident on Saturday at Nevelsk, AP reported.

The vessel hit a reef while carrying 786 tons of fuel oil and diesel, but the amount of the spill has not yet become clear.
