A boxship that grounded on a reef off the Taiwanese coast is leaking oil after salvors were unable to drain its tanks.

The 1,578-teu T.S. Taipei (built 2006) struck a reef 10 March and has since fractured. Salvage crews had been trying to drain 200 tonnes of fuel aboard the ship, but were hampered by foul weather.

Crews are now trying to contain the resulting slick from further fouling Taiwan's coast.
