A US sugar distributor has secured an order to arrest a Fairmont Shipping-managed bulker after it collided with a dock in Louisiana.

Chief Judge Brian Jackson, of the US federal court in Baton Rouge, issued an order to seize the ship after Louisiana Sugar Refining filed a lawsuit in the court.

The lawsuit claims the company could suffer $20m in repair costs after its dock at Grammercy was struck by the 81,400-dwt Star of Abu Dhabi (Built 2009) on Friday.
