The master of a Swire Shipping vessel which spilled an estimated 250 tonnes of fuel oil off Australia during a cyclone has been granted bail.



The Filipino master will even be able to continue sailing the 23,737-dwt Pacific Adventurer (built 1991) once he coughs up AUD 100,000 ($71,700) to secure bail.

Bernardino Gonzales Santos has been charged with one offence of causing pollution after containers falling from the deck of the Hong Kong-flagged ship punctured fuel tanks off the Queensland coast on 11 March.
