A Bluebridge ferry has hit a fishing boat in New Zealand while berthing.

The 1,350-lane-metre Santa Regina (built 1985) was hampered by strong winds while docking at Wellington's Glasgow Wharf on Tuesday night.



It struck a glancing blow to the smaller vessel, leaving a gouge mark high on the ferry’s stern, Bluebridge said.



The next sailing was cancelled, but repairs were being carried out and Santa Regina was due to be ready again on Wednesday



One witness said the hull tear was 4 metres long: ''You can put your hand through it.
