An investigation has begun after a cleaner was killed by a water jet on a Singapore bulker in Brazil.

The contractor died after the high-pressure jet hit him in the thigh, severing the femoral artery, which is up to 15cm below the skin, local media reported.

The cleaning work was taking place on the 82,000–dwt Ocean Phoenix I (built 2007) at Santos on 20 June.
