Lundh’s chemical coup
Swedish shipbroker races to cash in on management of small Turkish chemical tankers built on spec during the market boom.
A Greek shipowner has handed over a $3m ransom payment in a bid to secure the release of a hijacked bulk carrier but the ship remains in pirate hands, it is claimed.

Cash was dropped onto the deck of the 23,700-dwt Filitsa (built 1996) but another gang now controls the vessel, a local expert says.
Andrew Mwangura, of the Kenya-based East African Seafarers Assistance Programme, told Reuters: "The choppers dropped the money. But the ship is still being held captive by another group of gunmen.”
A pirate onboard the Order Shipping controlled ship told the newswire the original hijackers had intended to release the Filitsa tonight after the ransom was paid.
Attempts to contact Order representatives for further details were unsuccessful Monday due to ongoing meetings at its Piraeus office.
The Filitsa was snatched over 1,000 miles off the Somali coast in November while en route from Kuwait to South Africa. There are 22 crew members onboard the vessel.
